Andropause ~ Acknowledging Male Menopause

Men are not immune!

We’re all familiar with the hormonal struggles endured by the female half of the population. What is termed “menopause” for them is reflected in the male experience known as “andropause.” Just as with women, men also see a substantial decline in hormone production as they age. In their case, it’s known as “Male Androgen Deficiency Syndrome,” and the symptoms are remarkably similar to those of their female counterparts.

Andropause is most simply described as a decrease in testosterone levels within the body. Testosterone is produced in the ovaries, the adrenal glands, and the testes. It is the primary hormone in regard to male sexuality and is paramount for maintaining normal energy levels. Testosterone is also directly related to erectile dysfunction, libido, mood, and a whole host of physiological functions.
